Referendum on Euro and Immigration
The people of Britain have been promised a referendum on whether or not to join the Euro because it is a matter with significant long-term implications for everyone, a matter too important to be left to decide by politicians and pressure groups alone. But there is another issue with far greater implications both in the short and in the long term: Immigration
For more than fifty years now the UK has seen a steady influx of people whose culture, religion and race is totally different from that of British people. This is having a profound effect on well-nigh every facet of everyday life, something we will look at in more detail later. The big question here is this: Why were the people of Britain never asked if they wanted immigration and all that goes with it? The parties represented in parliament may be at odds about how immigration is done, sometimes a bit more and sometimes less, but they have never offered the electorate a choice on the question whether immigration was wanted at all. This must change and the only way to do this is a referendum.

Why a Referendum?
Supposedly we live in a democratic society where the government does the Will of the people as opposed to dictatorships where governments do what they want regardless of the population wants.
But what does democracy mean? It derives from the Greek words 'demos' for people and 'kratia' for power; in short people power. As it is, of course, difficult to know what people want we have a system where representatives are elected to speak and decide for the population at large. This is fine for most of the decisions politicians make and if people are dissatisfied with the policy of a particular government they are free to vote that government out of office and replace it. But what happens when over decades the majority of the people want one thing, but all parties in parliament do just the opposite? People do not have a choice on that issue anymore. In our case the issue is immigration. For over fifty years governments from both the left and the right have permitted large scale immigration despite constant opposition from the people of this country. Our system has failed democracy in regard to immigration. The only way to restore the democratic rights to the people of Britain is by having a referendum on this matter.

Hear the people, Mr. Blair!
Some two thirds of Britons are against immigration and yet it continues at an alarming rate. Why?
We need a referendum to decide the issue.
Support democracy - support a referendum!

So what can you do?
It's quite easy and will only take you a moment or two.
Write to the Labour Party and ask for a referendum on immigration. You can write or send a fax to the address below or even call if you like, or just click on the link at the bottom. Please be polite. Do not be threatening or abusive! Please note that this is not spamming, it is political lobbying, which everyone has the right to do. Pressure groups do it all the time and may even go so far as 'helping' their campaign a bit by making donations to political parties.
You can write your own letter or just copy and paste the following letter:

Dear Sirs,

Tony Blair and New Labour have promised the people of Britain a referendum on whether or not to join the Euro. I am asking that this referendum also include a vote on immigration. All governments over the last fifty years have permitted immigration, which has dramatically changed everyday life in Britain, without ever asking people if they wanted such changes. The issue of immigration is too important to be ignored any longer. As we live in a democracy the people must have a choice. The only way to do this is by having a referendum.
I ask you and indeed demand that my democratic rights as a citizen of this country be respected. Stop ignoring the will of the people and start asking what they want: Give us a referendum on immigration!

Yours truly,

Restoring Democracy
This site is not about being for or against immigration, it is about democracy. In a democracy the people have the right to determine their own future. Political parties are elected as a practical way of expressing the will of the people. Usually this works, but in the case of immigration the system has failed: All parties in parliament have been for immigration, or have at least permitted it, while a consistent majority of people in the country are opposed to immigration. In a recent MORI poll almost two thirds of Britons were found to be against immigration. It is high time to put democracy back on track and what could be more democratic than a referendum? If you are in favour of democracy you should support a referendum. The motives of anyone against a referendum are questionable at best. Not supporting a referendum means trying to impose a certain political point of view on others rather than asking them what they want. This is not only undemocratic, it is dictatorial.
And by the way, in Switzerland it is an established practice to have a referendum on more than one question at the same time. This works very well and there is no reason why it should not be possible in Britain too. Arguments that such a multiple question referendum is not possible for technical reasons are just poor excuses by those who are opposed to such a democratic process that at times has embarrassing outcomes for politicians and pressure groups.

Are you for Democracy? - Support a Referendum!
